Can You Recycle Polystyrene Beanbag Fillings?
Wondering if you can recycle those polystyrene fillings from your beanbag? The short answer is: it’s tricky. While polystyrene can technically be recycled, most councils don’t have the right facilities to process it, which means it often ends up in landfills. So, while it might seem like it could be recycled, the reality is that large-scale recycling of polystyrene isn’t really viable at the moment.
The good news? There are eco-friendly alternatives like BioFoam® that are biodegradable, sustainable, and much better for the planet!
Filling Your Beanbag- Easy, Fast, and Fun!
Filling your beanbag doesn’t need to be a chore! Beanbags come in all shapes and sizes, so knowing your beanbag’s dimensions (HxLxW) will help you figure out just how much BioFoam® refill you need. And don’t worry if you have extra—leftover BioFoam® can be used to refresh other items too! Think footstools, old teddy bears, or anything that needs a comfy boost.
For our Big Beanbag chairs (90cm x 85cm), you'll need around 180 litres of BioFoam® refill beads. But if you like your beanbag firm or soft, you can adjust accordingly! BioFoam® has many great properties, one of which is durability, so the need for top-ups will be low. However, we know that you’re going to spend a lot of time using your bean bag, so if you do need to top up the filling, we can provide you with a refill to use at home.
BioFoam should be stored at below 30 °C. Protect from direct sunlight and other weather conditions (rain,
wind, frost etc.).
4. HOW MUCH BIOFOAM® DO I NEED?
Volume of a product needs three dimensions, length, width and height OR a radius measurement if the product is round.

5. DOES BIOFOAM® MEET FIRE SAFTEY STANDARDS?
All such products listed on our website meet all applicable British safety standards, including fire safety. We are tested to BS 7176:2007 Low Hazard standard for domestic household use.
Our outer cover fabrics are all made from natural cotton and tested to cover schedule 4 cigarette test, with a tested schedule 3 barrier interliner. Our BioFoam® itself has been tested to schedule 2 for non-foam fillings and fibres.
To make our products to a higher standard as possible they are also tested to BS 5852:2006, Section 11 for non-domestic environments. This test covers all composites used on all our products. For structure and durability our bean products have been tested to EN 16139 Test level 1 for general non-domestic environments.
